Falcona organised a private jet charter flight on a Cessna Citation CJ1 light jet for passengers from Malaga to Madrid for a business meeting . The passengers were regular clients of ours so we knew what type of aircraft they preferred and the way they wanted to travel.

The aircraft was in Malaga so it didn’t have to reposition for the trip, keeping the costs down. So once we sent our clients a list of options for the flight they decided to go with the Citation CJ3 aircraft. However the weather in Madrid was horrendous. It was the heaviest snowfall in 40 years, flights were cancelled and the airport was closed for a couple of days.

So we had to reschedule the flight, which the operator of the aircraft were extremely helpful. These things happen that are out of the control of operators and charter brokers. This is where a good operator/broker relationship comes into play.

Due to the backlog of flights due to the bad weather in Madrid we initially struggled to get a slot. The slots go to the commercial aircraft first then general aviation. Also all the stands were not able to open so the airport was at reduced capacity.

Operator: Find attached the contract- If possible it would be best to sign the contract tonight, as we can start working on other details ( catering brief etc.) We can organize the payment in the morning once you are in the office. No problem for the 1 additional passenger.

Regarding tomorrow’s flight, LEMG-LEMD-LEMG. Due to our current new restrictions coming into place tomorrow,I would like to ensure that your clients have a justification for their trip ( such as working or health reasons).

Kindly let us know their nationality as soon as able in order to check these formalities. Our operations are informing us that due to the weather in Madrid, we still have no slots and we are not granted parking in Madrid. This will oblige us to position to another airport to park.

This could increase the costs, We are looking for an alternative, in order to avoid having to operate a double round trip. They are only granting slots in the morning for the same day.

We are still waiting for today’s slots and will only know about the slots for the 19^th, tomorrow morning.

For what I understand, if you get the slots we are only allowed to stay in for 1h. I am looking for an close alternative airport where we could land and drive them to the city. I will keep you posted.

The good new is that we have been granted the slots for this afternoon. The bad news is that we are not allowed to leave the plane stay over today.

Therefore the price for the CJ3 double round trip, will increase. However, I would like to offer you our other Jet CJ1, with 5 seats.

Do let me know if this is a suitable option. I look forward to hearing from you. The jet would go back to Malaga, because if we go to any other airport we would have to charge overnight costs. Most airports are about the same flight time than Malaga, so it is more cost efficient to go to Malaga. Let me know if this works for you in order to proceed to the changes asap.

The CJ1 is the second generation of the extremely successful Citation Jet series. It comes with all of the advantages that the original Citation Jet offered, but with improvements in economy and performance. Its status as the second generation Citation gives the advantage of using a private jet design that has been tested and modified to exceed the success of the first model – the Citation Jet.

Simplicity, Economy and Performance

CJ1 differs in creating an aerodynamic structure that is financially prudent to produce and handles well. Previous Citations had used a straight wing, which slows the aircraft considerably but dramatically reduces production and design costs.

The Citation Jet upgraded to a natural laminar flow wing, which took four years to design in a joint venture between Cessna and NASA.

This wing delays the onset of airflow separation longer, improving the lift-to-drag characteristics ten to fifteen percent when compared to earlier straight-wing designs.

Specifications

The CJ1 is extremely fuel-efficient, burning an average of 134 gallons per hour. The economy of its fuel burn can be largely attributed to Cessna’s choice of engines. It uses two Williams/Rolls-Royce FJ44-1A turbofans, each of which delivers 1,900 pounds of thrust on takeoff.

It uses the Pro Line 21 avionics package, complete with PFD (Primary Flight Display) and MFD (Multi Function Display) flat-panel screens.

Despite the CJ1’s economy in flight, it allows for a surprisingly high payload. Its three baggage compartments can carry up to a total of 832 pounds of luggage.

The CJ1 was specifically designed to be able to operate on short runways.

Efficient, comfortable and direct; the Cessna’s latest model of the Excel series is ideal for short-haul journeys, and is a particular favourite for intra-European flights for business trips or weekend getaways.
