When you fly by private jet, you can expect to avoid the hustle and bustle of the main terminal, and fly when you want. There are many reasons why people choose to take a private charter. Safety and security whilst travelling is a big issue for many of our private jet clients.

Flying time is similar to a commercial airline flight, however you will often save time checking-in, and going through security. You have total freedom in the choice of your departure and destination airports, plus of course if you are running late, the aircraft will wait for you.

Security

The Department for Transport is responsible for the security of UK airports. Their policies are implemented at each airport by the airport security staff. Aircraft operators, handling agents and charter brokers do not set these rules.

Before flying, you will go through airport security. These measures are in place to help maintain your safety, regardless of the fact that you’re flying on a private jet, so familiarise yourself with the rules: this will help you pass through the security checks as quickly as possible.

Restrictions on what you can take on board vary from time to time, so we recommend you read the latest security advice before every flight from the UK.

Please remember that although all airports must adhere to relevant aviation security requirements, security procedures may vary from airport to airport.

Which aircraft will be screened?

Security screening of all passengers, crew and luggage is required prior to boarding for charter (non-scheduled commercial) flights over 10 metric tons.

 

All passengers must pass through security control before boarding the aircraft. Aircraft that weigh over 10 tonnes will need to be screened unless it’s the owner of the aircraft flying onboard.

Private jets from the super mid-size category and upwards such as Embraer Legacy 500, Hawker 900XP, Embraer Legacy 650,Gulfstream G550 and Dassault Falcon 7X are just some of the aircraft that will be screened.

Prior to your booking we will notify you of the time you need to arrive at the terminal to ensure you get through security screening as quickly as possible.

We always recommend arriving at the airport approximately 40 minutes prior to your departure time, especially if the group is 10 or more passengers.

You will need approximately 3 minutes per passenger to get through security and reach the departure gate with plenty of time to board your flight.

Checking-in

When you fly commercial you need to be at the airport at least 2 hours prior for domestic flights (3 hours for International flights) before the scheduled departure time of your flight.

If you’re not checking luggage, the carrier advises you to arrive at the airport at least 60 minutes before your scheduled departure time. If you’re checking luggage, it’s 90 minutes. For international flights, give yourself two hours,

However if you’re travelling by private jet you only need to arrive at the private terminal 30-40 minutes to be screened prior to your flight.

Packing tips

 

To avoid bags becoming jammed on the conveyor belt, please ensure that:

  • All loose straps are tied up or removed.
  • All flaps are securely fastened.
  • Extendable handles are retracted or secured.
  • Old tags and barcodes are removed.

If under 100ml and in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag, passengers are permitted to take liquids, gels and pastes through security separately from their hand baggage.

It is best to prepare your liquid bag – no larger than 20cm x 20cm and not exceeding one litre – before arrival at Manchester Airport. They are however available if you forget to bring your own, though there is a limit of one liquid bag per passenger. The bag must be one litre, which is around half the size of a standard A4 piece of paper, and it must be sealable.

What is a liquid?

  • Water and other drinks, soups, syrups
  • Pastes, including toothpaste
  • Creams, lotions and oils, including moisturiser
  • Perfumes
  • Make-up, including mascara
  • Sprays, including sun-tan lotion
  • Inhalers
  • Gels, including hair and shower gels
  • Contents of pressurised containers, including shaving foam, other foams and deodorants
  • Liquid-solid mixtures
  • Any other item of a similar consistency

Lipsticks, lip balms and stick deodorants are not classed as liquids.

Always check in any liquid over 100ml and if you’re unsure whether an item will be allowed through, please always check it in with your hold luggage.

Liquids in containers larger than 100ml generally cannot go through security even if the container is only part full. There are some exemptions.
