Flying With Pets

Travelling on a commercial airline with your pet can be a difficult and stressful time for you and your pet. As a general rule, they must be checked-in and stowed away in the cargo hold where they will be placed in a carrier or container. Not the ideal way for your beloved pet to travel.

A private jet charter flight can mean that your pet will travel with you on-board in the cabin of the aircraft, so they will have a more relaxing and enjoyable flight experience. As your dedicated charter broker we will find you the most suitable aircraft for your flight.

Passengers Arriving At Manchester Airport With Their Pets

The Pet Travel Scheme is a system that allows animals to travel easily between EU Member countries without the need for quarantine. A Pet Passport is a document that officially records all the information needed for your pet.

What this does is it speeds up the process and makes it easier for travellers. Previously it was a laborious process, especially if the procedures were not followed.

On-Board Experience

Your on-board experience with your pet is extremely different to a commercial flight. Your pet can and will travel in the cabin with you. They need to be in a regulation carrier (cats), larger pets must occupy a seat and should not block the aisles or emergency exits.

The safest way for your dog to travel is with a safety harness. During take off they must be affixed to a seat belt, just like a a small child. Your pets preferences will be sent to the operator, so if your dog likes a certain type of biscuit then we will order it for you.

Regulations

We always recommend to customers that they make sure that their pet has all the proper documents and vaccinations before enquiring about a private jet flight. New regulations  introduced this year brings the UK’s  Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) fully into line with EU regulations; cats and dogs coming from the EU and certain  non – EU countries will no longer require a post-vaccination blood test and the pre entry waiting period will be reduced from six months to 21 days.

What is (PETS)

The Pet Travel Scheme allows pet cats and dogs from certain countries, to enter and re-enter the United Kingdom, without the need for quarantine as long as the criteria set out has been met.

Under the scheme, only approved private jet operators can travel into the UK with cats, dogs and ferrets. It’s the responsibility of the operator to check the pets are allowed to travel under PETS

To fly by private jet and become an authorised carrier for pet charter flights, the operator must adhere to DEFRA rules and have an agreement in place.  The documents has the process required from check-in at origin airport, transportation from aircraft to the pet agency, and how the checks will be made.

Your pet will be pre-booked, with the operator of the aircraft and must be sent to the pet agency at least 48 hours ahead of arrival. Before your pet is released all checks must be successfully completed.

On arrival at Manchester Airport, a representative from the Pet Agency will be waiting at the private terminal. They will either meet you on-board the aircraft or do all the relevant checks in the terminal. This normally takes no more than fifteen minutes. However if your pet fails any aspect of the checks, it will be transferred to the quarantine handling facility.

What Size Container?

To make sure that you have the correct container for your pet, we recommend that you follow these guidelines;

  1. The correct size of the container is essential as it must protect the animal during transport, be secure and have enough ventilation. If these are not suitable the operator/pilot have the right to refuse not travel.
  2. It must be large enough for your pet to stand up and turn around and lie down in a normal way. Depending on the length of the flight, it may be more important on flights over one hour. So your pet has to be as comfortable as possible.
  3. The container should have a pot of water accessible for your pet from the outside.
  4. Your pets nose and paws should not be able to reach through any ventilation gap or door meshing.
  5. The door must be secure and strong enough to contain and protect your pet during transportation.
  6. Label the carrier with all your pets information, any medication.
  7. Search for pet friendly hotels or dog walkers in the area prior to departure.
  8. Take a animal first aid kit.

Travelling In The UK

The new rules bring the UK’s PETS into line with the most recent Europe- wide pet importation regulations. Domestic pets previously had to spend six months in quarantine upon arrival in the UK to prevent rabies and other diseases entering the country – this practice was changed for certain EU nations under PETS, along with the introduction of the pet passport programme. The latest regulations apply to all EU and approved non-EU countries.

Under PETS, we will arrange with the operators to check the pets’s passport, travel credentials and microchip with the owner or the pet’s escort in the cabin. Once the paperwork has been cleared and stamped as required, your pet will be free to disembark. All applications to bring a pet into the UK under the PETS regulations must be emailed to the pet handling team a minimum of at least 24 hours before flight departure.

We will make sure that everything is in place and it’s a nice smooth process from start to finish. The customer lands, the dogs are checked over, the passports are checked and off they go.

Private Jet Operators

Each airport has certain operators who are allowed to fly into their airport.  For example there are around ten operators who can fly into Manchester Airport with pets. Falcona will search the marketplace and book your flight on an aircraft that can access the airport you want and is closest to your destination.

International Flights

Private jet charter flights are slightly more complicated and the rules and regulations of the country need to be adhered to. In some countries it can take as long as six months to get the correct paperwork in order.

It is the responsibility of the pet owner to obtain the necessary documents after which you would need to contact a reservations agent at the private jet handling agents to advise us of your intent to travel with your pet. When you speak with the agent, please have the following information ready – the kind of animal, weight of the cage/animal hold.

We encourage you to contact the local Veterinary Services office in both the departing country and importing country to find out what the requirements are in terms of documents/health requirements for the export of live animals from the departing country and import of live animals into the importing country.
